University of Tulsa

Well when I was in Tulsa on tuesday I went to have a tour of University of Tulsa. I met with a woman named Carol who talked to me about their business program, costs and so forth. It would run me 25k USD a year, but with the 5k scholarship that would bring it down to 20k/year. This includes, tuition, books, food, living and medical. Not that bad considering everything.

Though when I got back home to talk to my folks they said 20k/year is too much because thats 30k/year Canadian. BUT then I got something in the mail that appears to have been "over nighted" to my house. Its a hand written letter from the woman I spoke to saying (in a nut shell) that if the cost of coming here is what will stop me from going to school there that they would work something out, something a little closer to what I could afford.

Now the question is do I go for this opertunity or do I stay closer to home? I would be without a car for at least the first year, and it is a smaller town.

I need to mention that with my marks - even though I think they're bad- this place would take me if I applied.

Your thoughts?

I'd say look into it more. btw, this post will be deleted soon to avoid personal attack, so hopefully it gets seen.

Dont not delete this! Now that is said, I will be considering it. I'm not sure how much of an insentative they are talking about but for it to work they would have to bring it as close to 15k/year USD.

Rob I say if it felt right there then check out what they can do for you. If you don't think you're going to be comfortable going there then look into some other places that you might be interested in. Don't settle on 1 school just because they'll take you. If you have to take some classes at a community college or something like that to get your grades up and then try to get into a university of your choice do it. Just do what is going to make you happy.

hows their college for your major? its nice to seem like they do care, but i think they will give you applications for student loans and scholorships. thats at least what every other person in that same situation has happen to them. theres TONS of universities around the country, you just godda find one with a good college(department) in your major. 20k a year isnt bad considerin your paying private/out of state fees. i would pay roughly 12-15k a year including everything, thats in state, before my scholorships. (which only cover about 2k a semester)

Tulsa is nice, it just depends on what type of city you want to live in.I lived in Stillwater, OK a few years back. What about OU (Okla. Univ.) and OSU (Okla. State Univ.)... those are two other good schools in OK.One's private, one's public.I don't know what are the popular majors for each school. But I can back up OSU and tell u its a great school (friends that are there or have been).OU is a good school too...don't know too much about it.

Well I thought the weather was nice down there and the people were great. There would only be a few things that could be a problem
1- cost
2-no car

Other then that I'm sure I'd make new friends down there, and I've heard really good things about the school. Really its coming down to cost, and if I dont get in up here in canada I will have to fork out money to goto school.

As for it being free up here in canada, no nothing is free my friend.
