Nissan 240

my work buddy found a 90 nissan 240 sx for sale for $800. he said that he taked to the owner of the car and the car is in pretty good shape, but the head gasket is blown. i was thinking about getting that car, fix it, or swap the engine for a turbo one if it does not have one, and keep that as the project car, and the accord just for pimping and daily driving. so my questions are:

is that car a turbo ?

what type of engine can be swapped in and for how much ?

DUDE!@!!!@!!@!@!!! if you dont get it i will! damn ive been looking everywhere for a cheap s13 body with a bad motor!! if the body is in great shape a sr20det will drop in check out www.srswap.com for info on the swap. your looking about 2500 for a turbo'd motor. that thing can be made very very fast. rwd... great handling, tons of aftermarket support... it would be a GREAT project car

my friend has a 240sx, no its not turbo :o , the engines a KA24E (also used in nissan trucks...) , you can swap it for an SR20DE or SR20DET (yeah turbo), but those are JDM engines... in california, you can forget about them here. i heard the swaps can get pricy, but im not too sure...

i don't know about the body, but around here the body of the car is a problem. i'll call my friend and ask for the phone #. he finds all kinds of deals like this. he just got a 94 325i last month for 3 grand. just let me know wjhat you want and i'll have him find it for you. i gotta talk to my parents about it. they still give me roof, so i think it's fair to do that.

you can also not bother getting a jdm engine for a ridiculous price and get a nissan sentra ser motor it's the sr20de(t maybe) and it is the same block as sold in japan minus the turbo. the other benifit to this is that the ser already has LOTS of aftermarket parts through both Stillen Steve Millen Sports Cars and J.Wolf Technologies.

i had a sentra with the 1.6 and i have to say that it is hands down a better motor than any honda equivlent. (no it does not have the same hp/L stock but it's potential is far greater.) the bottom ends are ROCK solid (the japanese conter part puts out 240 hp and is often bumped up far more than that on stock internals) the top end is sweet and it uses a timing chain instead of a belt (they almost never go)

to answer you question NO that car is not turbo unless the guy you buy it from already put one on. also keep in mind this is not that rediculously low of a price (don't get me wrong it'll take some looking to find the same price but for 1-2grand you can find one with a mint body that runs fine).

Also just out of curiousty is it a coupe hatch or convertable

dude... the 1.6 motor sucks. slow as balls... no after market support. oh and the sr20de that comes in the fwd se-r'd and the nx2000is alot different. the internals on the sr20det's are different and you cannot bolt them up the same because ones RWD and ones FWD, the s14 and s15 sr20cet motors had VTI (variable valve timing) something the USDM sr20's never came with. and the jdm motor is jsut all around stronger. besides the price of a JDM red top sr20 (s13) is about 2500... including turbo and all... you cant turbo a stock sr20de for that price.

Stefan, jump on this thing if it turns out to be in good condition. You can't go wrong for that price
