Installed AEM Cold Air, noticed burning smell
Hey guys,
Just installed an AEM Cold Air Intake and I love it. Love the sound and noticable power gains. Anyways, I've noticed a burning smell from time to time when I'm driving, specially under hard acceleration. But my clutch seems to be going too, so maybe I smell the clutch burning. But I'm curious to see whether or not the Intake affects the air/fuel ratio for my engine and would cause any lean/rich mixtures. Any help would be appreciatied. Thanks! |

I can guarantee you that the intake doesn't affect your A/F mixture that much to cause any kind of problems. It may be your clutch or if there's something leaking it might be burning off, so check under your car for puddles.

I would guess clutch or a leak some where.

What about the valve breather. Did you hook it back up to your intake. If not, it's just the fumes from the valve cover.

what does it smell like
clutch - burning peanut butter oil - well come on if you don't know what that smells like gear oil - worse much much worse than anything else gas - thats what your smelling if your running rich It could also be something simple (my fender well plastic lining was rubbing on my tire (it melted the piss out of it(the liner)) p.s. a honda won't ever run rich or lean (unless you have a vx) unless there is a malfunction with the O2 or computer. your car is indeed running more gas but the fuel ratio is always optimized through analysis of the O2 sensor's readings. and as far as the valve cover breather tube ya you should attach it but according to the helm's manual the valve cover breather sucks in it does not blow out... so shouldn't becoming from there. however i've personally cleaned a trail of obvious oil fume deposits from my intake tube (the trail leads directly from the breather tube inlet to the throttle body) so you never know make sure it's attached any way.

Try taking off your skid plates and checking for any liquid. That how I figured out I had an antifreeze leak (besides the huge puddle on the ground.)
