does this suprise any of you?
it doesn't suprise me, when i heard a few years back that amercain creates 1/4 of the worlds polution i put this kinda of thing together. one of hte biggest factors are teh people that drive 20+km to get to where they work. In North American people think nothing of living 30, 40, 50min+ away from where they do their activities like work, school and relax at the beach. Whats your time worth? and why do people move father away? I'll tell you why people do this, well in the early 1900's car companies bought out railroad companies and shut them down to encourage the buying of cars (which at the time were really not needed). Think about your major highway, now put 10 trains running up and down that same road, think it would be better for the envoirment? I europe people use trains to commuit and they created less waste. theres another reason why people drive so much and its because driving encourages the prosuit of wealth. I know it sounds strange. But when you own a car you can now drive places you couldn't before. Now you can drive to the bigger cheaper house outside the city limits instead of saving your money a bit longer and getting a smaller house close to the city. It would really be cheaper just to own the smaller house and not drive then visa versa. Our society often over looks the costs of driving, and its not just in money. What is your time worth, if you spend 1.5 hours a day driivng where is your life going? Personally i dont spend alot of time driivng because my parents bought a house right by the subway line (not to mention we're close to downtown) and put less then 9.6kmiles/year on acura. You know how many people say, dude you need to drive the car more you put next to no miles on it. Whats the point in owning a nice car if your going to drive it into the ground? blah! i'm moving to hawaii and just live by the beach! sorry for the rant |
