New - Help me hook up my car!

Greetings,

Hey, I'm a 20 year old college student. I go to University of Maryland, Baltimore County. I live in Bethesda MD. I've just received a loan, and I have money available to work on my car.

I think making modifications on it might actually be cheaper than buying a new car. Plus I like the feeling of "designing" and making the car into your own unique thing. This is an awesome board, and I can't beleive by browsing the cars how well you can make a car look just by customizing it.

Here is my plan can $2,500 cover this? :

4 16' tires.
Rims 16' (set of 4)
Spare 16' tire.
Installation fees for tires
Brake pads (rear 2 wheels, or all wheels)
Alteeza Lights
Factory style Spoiler (Accord 91)
Black Widow Kit
Kit Installation
Body Job (removal of dents and rusting)
Paint Job (want the car changed to a blue or orange color)
Window Tinting
Engine Tune-up

I live in DC/MD. I'm open to buying some items used from Ebay or junk-yards.

As you can see, at this stage, I'm not really worried about speed. I mainly want a car that runs well, and a car that looks good. Audio will come, but I know exactly what to do for that. A few related questions:

1) What is your opinion on Kits? I'm actually thinking that I might not get the kit and just get EZ fenders instead which are much cheaper.
2) How do you get that glossy look on a cars paint job?
3) Do I need special suspension if I put 16 tires and rims on an Accord 91? And how do I know what width to get the tires?
4) I have 154 K as I said. For how long are hondas known to run well? What can I do (both major and minor) to prolong my cars life?
5) In your opinion(s) what body color would go best with a maroon interior?

E-mail me at: anyiku1@umbc.edu with any comments or advice.

Thanks!

William.

Welcome to HS. Sounds like you have a plan, but not nearly enough money to cover it. A good paint job will run you about $2k... and also, why do you want a 16" spare? Getting a kit painted and installed could run you $800+, so that doesn't even leave you with wheels, etc. Look around this site, and you'll find some great ideas on how to upgrade your car.

ya agreed. when i started this whole modding thing, i never realized just how expensive of hobby this is. rims alone can run you around 1500, same with paintjob and kit another 2000. i would say first get your tune up, window tinting, body work and paint. then see how much money you have left, and lower your car. then save up for the kit and rims, cause those will most likely be your most expensive mods. that's just my opinion on what i'd do if i was you.

by the way...welcome!!

Sup Majiin !

I'm from Conowingo Maryland...

You have to hit up our maryland link at

Click here If you Live in Maryland !

I agree with 94.
You can get a decent set of 16" rims for 1000
A good quality paint job will cost $2000
the black widow kit is on ebay for like $700
but make sure the car is running good first
get a tune up at a good honda dealer
and take care of any engine work you may need
Do the tint yourself , to save a hundred bucks
I did it turned out great
altezza's = EBAY
good color for dark red interior... black or dark red

did I miss anything ??

And welcome to HS
Happy Honda'ing

Ya, you need more money than that on all the mods you are planning to do. Painting alone will run you 2000.00 +
Just think about what you really want to do first to your car. Hooking up cars is a VERY expensive hobby!

But if I was you I will first tune up the car then paint the car over.
Just shop around.... Good Luck!

By the way welcome

ill help you install if you are actually willing to learn. im not down with installing while you watch, you must help. =] i wont tell you what to buy but ill guide you in the right direction. such as body kit is one of the last things you do...reason being = body kits are fragile. they can be screwed up by a flying rock and what not. if you do a body kit first then start upgrading performance you will want to test each performance part as it goes on. (driving fast increases chances of screwing kit up). same goes with paint job as well. get speed done first. =] i emailed ya my number if ya wanna talk about it....i love working on cars and shit, maybe i can teach you something or you can teach me something.
