What is up with my kitchen?

Seriously...this is pissing me off and costing me money. Since I've moved here almost every utensil I've bought has rusted...this includes even "stainless steel" stuff. Everyone tells me "oh...you've just got hard water". Well...this is an apartment and even if I had room for a softener I wouldn't dump the money into it. I swear...the water hear tastes like that smell you have when you drop a chlorine tab into your toilet's tank. It's insanely chemically treated and I don't have any ideas about how to get rid of this shit. I'm going through silverware and utensils like there's no tomorrow. Even the pizza pans I bought with teflon coating started to rust after less than a week. Any ideas?

get one of those filters and mount it under the kitchen sink. we got a small one that goes onto the faucet and i can tell that the dishes are a lot cleaner now, plus the water tastes like the aquafina bottled water

Yah I would just suggest one of the pur water filters (or brand of your choosing). They work really well and definitely make the water a hell of a lot better tasting. The only down side to that is you can't run hot water through them....so basically to get your dishes clean you'd have to heat up the water on the stove or microwave so that you get them clean.

I can't eat out everyday...don't have that kinda money. I don't use real plates...just the paper kind (use 'em and lose 'em). But my forks and spoon still get fuxored.

Well...I live in Pittsburg, KS for the moment...not to far from Missouri (about 20 minutes from the state line in the southeastern part) so I suppose I can identify somewhat. Another thing that bothering me...sometimes if I'm away for a substantial period of time (like on winter break...3 1/2 weeks) I have problems when I turn the faucet on. After winter break I went to wash some dishes. Turned the water on and, while waiting for it to heat up, it turned red. Apparently there was rust in there and it ran like that for about 10 seconds and then was back to normal. This happens in my bathroom as well. I'm sick of it...actually getting pissed off. Is drinkable water too much to ask?

That's no problem...no children or pregnosaurs are allowed in here. Too much smoke, booze, and swearing.

^ I don't know about the laws in your area but I know in LA i could have my management company handle it. It might have to do with something else. Have you asked your neighbors to see if they are having the same issue.
