termostat stuck???

ok i got the thermostat out of my car, and i'm not sure if its stuck or not just by looking at it, i was doing an oil change and thought that i would check it out also, just to keep up on things, now the thing on the bottom that slides up and down, still slides, so i'm guessing that its not stuck, is there anything else to look at on it just to make sure

does your fan turn on? Does it open when you place it in heated water?
Thats a good way to tell if its ok.

if your car isnt overheating your prolly good too go. I wouldnt worry about it. BTW its not necissarily that it can move up and down it depends on whether it reacts (wax pellet inside) to heat correctly (if I remember correctly).

if your temp needle is broken you should really get a replacement cluster or at least that part of the cluster...if not then its an excuse to get an aftermarket water temp gauge

thermostats are cheap... heads aren't...

I'd change the thermostat... You should do it every 2 years anyway.... they can last longer than that but do you really want to wait till it goes?

oh and I'd go for a failsafe thermostat... when they do go bad they break open not closed... so instead of you figuring out the thermo went bad by overheating... you figure it out by it taking your car MUCH longer to come up to temperature on start up...

Much safer much better.

do u fell the engine warmer than usual when you pop out the hood ? might be you have some air inside the cooling system, the water pump might be going (60-90k miles life span on those), some stuck coolant passages, or the thermostat
