Does this only happen to me?

I've been having this problem lately. If I yawn or open my mouth too far it feels like my jaw unhinges or some shit (like my mandible...lower jaw bone...slides in under the upper part) and sometimes it becomes difficult to shut. I can usually just tap it to one side and it pops back into place...but not last night. I yawned and it got stuck again but this time I couldn't get it to pop back right away like usual. It started freaking me out. I kept trying to force it shut and I started to feel my joint on the left side sort of bow out towards the outside of my mouth and then it popped loud as hell (enough that my friends who were all talking heard it and looked at me like a freak). The left side of my jaw is stil sore and now I'm worried. Before it was just annoying...now it's turned painful. Am I just a freak or what? Maybe our in house pre-med PDiggs knowns.

Never happened to me, but about 6 months ago I started having an issue where sometimes when I yawn if feels like I pull a muscle on my right side, or like a tendon popping across a bone when under tension, and it hurts bad and I snap my jaw shut real quick. Only happens on a big yawn and not too often, but very annoying and painful.

But yeah, I'd say maybe you should check with a doc.

sounds like its hyperextension...youre ligaments are too long probably...
A doctor visit would probably not really do much good unless you are planning surgery or some sort of device that prevents you from opening your mouth too far (for a period of time for the ligaments to shrink)

My ex girlfriend had that problem....she couldnt open her mouth up very wide and it caused problems it sucked trust me. I think its something called TMJ or commonly know as lock jaw. She could hear it popping everytime she would open her mouth up and like bone hitting bone They told her that she would have to let them break her jaw realign it and were like the retainer thing to fix it or just deal with it and never give dome.....

the geekz0r (11:04:16 PM): so 2nd pulls like 1st in the 5speed, 3rd is like 2nd, etc.
PortugeeTex (11:04:26 PM): so whats 1st like then?
the geekz0r (11:04:49 PM): 1st is like hitting a cheeta in the ass with a tazer

I talked to my brother, the paramedic, and he said it was probably TMJ (the name makes no sense...your TMJ is your temporal mandibular joint, but it's also a condition?). he said there really isn't much I can do about it. Apparently some people get it so bad they need surgery or pain pills. Fuck all that. If it gets worse I'll look more into it. Damn jaw's still sore.
