Finally Finished My SWAP!!!
Hey all - its good to be back!
Ok, so i finished my project for the summer - to do an engine swap on my car. I got a JDM B16A SIR-II from www.Hmotorsonline.com. The swap took longer than i had originally hoped because since this is a JDM motor, my stock wiring harness would not plug in properly. Other than the wiring problems (which are all set now) the rest of the motor went in just fine. My car is now a whole new animal - much faster than it used to be. It needs to go back to my shop for some minor stuff (headlight, new belts, brakes) but the car is running real good. To anybody thinking of doing and engine swap - it was definately worth it! |

I had someone else do it - but man. . . . it was expensive.
Wiring was definately the biggest problem, since the motor was JDM, the plugs had to be run through the harness so the motor would run right. |

Props..... it looks like you retained the A/C huh? I was looking at that site and the motor pricing confuses me. How much was your motor and what did it come with? If you dont mind me asking

Hey, how much did it cost for someone to drop it in for you, and how long did it take. Hope you dont mind me asking either. Im getting a swap and need to know roughly how much its gonna cost.

The problem i ran into was that since i am using a JDM motor, there are connectors on parts of the motor that were in the wrong place - so this swap was not plug and play. "steve" at HMO said that i should just take my stock harness and plug it into the new motor and run a knock sensor and extend my O2 sensor, but that was not the case. The shop that did my swap showed me that there was no way to get my stock harness to plug in, and instead of doing the ghetto thing by running wires throughout the engine compartment, they rewired my wiring harness to fit the new motor : that was deffinately the most unexpected and expensive part of the swap. If you are going to do a swap, do not go with a JDM motor, use a USDM one because it WILL be a plug and play swap. |

Man, that's awesome though. I'm wanting to do an engine swap in my hatchback - for real. I'm running a d15a - it sucks. yeah, that swap was really expensive, but worth it right? That's awesome man.

Even though this swap turned out to be much more expensive than i had originally hoped, it was sssooooooo worth it. ***** i must be honest and say that if i had known it would be much more expensive and tiring to get the JDM motor to work, i would have kept searching junkyards for a USDM B16a or B18c. The bottom line is that it was worth it. |

Turns out the only way to get a job done right and not ghetto is to do it the right way.
Steve From HMO and all the other people who i had talked too (HAsport) insisted that the JDM b16 was a direct plug in swap. You have no idea how mad i was when i heard that the motor would not plug in. So, instead of ghetto wiring the thing, i decided to have this done the right way - through the harness. I have absolutely no communication problems, everything works (including dash lights) and A/C. I am quite irate at the fact that HMO expected me to ghetto wire the motor - that is why they said it was a direct plug in swap. Believe me, this is no understatement. Quote:
