strange noises

when my car is at 1500 revs it makes a metallic calanking noise, every now and then it will do it at 2K but it always does it at 1500. can anyone tell me what it might be, im guessing timing because my revs drop and shoot up and thats more then likely a timing issue due to the fact the i have a 125k old timing belt, can anyone please help me indentify this problem though. thanks, this is also my frist post, so im a n00b to this forum.

DUDE! That cannot be good. I know funds may be limited, but save yourself in the long run and look into the timing belt. You could be f'cking up your valves. Do you have a check engine light on at alll?

yeah, my maintenence light has been on for about 5k miles but when i went to get it checked out they couldnt find out where to plug the thing in, as for the check engine light well in my guages some of the wiring got screwed up(i still have stock gauges) but half the lights dont work, like my gas light and stuff so i dont really know. ive been looking all over the internet on how to get to my timing belt so i can check it and i know they are a ***** to replace but i think me and my buddies can do it. i still havnt found where it is though, thanks for the help.

the timing belt is on the passaneger side of the engine hidden by some covers, next to the dipstick. yeah changing is is a beotch since you have to undo 3 of the engine mounts. i don't have a pic of it right now.

Dude, don't waste time get that fixed asap! Just pay the money and have someone put a new one on or else it will cost you a lot more money if you keep putting it off.
