At what speed should the torque converter lock up in a 2001 Accord V6? How can you test if it is locking up or not?
When I drive an automatic Range Rover I feel when the converter locks up, about 50-55mph and the tach needle drops a little, if you accelerate a little the speedometer and tachometer neddles move at similar pace, when it is not locked up the tach goes up before the car begins to accelerate.
I can't feel it lock on the Accord V6.
BTW, can you make the Accord transmission shift faster? It takes way too long between shifts.

honda trannies are pretty adaptive, so there isn't a specific speed the tq converter locks, or when the tranny shifts. it all depends on your driving habbits and how much the trottle is open.

How can I know when it is locked up? Is there a speed range on which the converter should lock up?
I've noticed that compared to the Range Rover (ZF transmission I think), shifts on the Honda are very slow, can this be improved for better performance?

well i notice on my car sometimes the rpms drop in 3rd and 4th, but it 4th mine locks at around 75-80mph

Well the honda tranny has an overdrive not sure if that means anything to you all. About shifting plenty can be done. www.levelten.com they make all kinds of goodies for autos. Knew TC's with high stall speeds and allow quicker shifts and faster spool ups.
