Higher Octane Gas after installing CAI and Exhaust

Hey all. I have recently installed a cai and Greddy SP exhaust to my 94 civic. I was wondering if I should start using higher octane gas or stay at 87? Also, when should I have my new air filter cleaned/changed? Thanks.

about the cleaning.. I guess it depends on the conditions you drive in.. And how clean you want your filer to be.. I clean mine every 4 months.

Unless your running a turbo..or have a very highperforming engine..don't worry about the gas.

i agree with both derek and accord man. NO need for higher octane gas........especially these days, gas prices are so high.

Yup, I agree about the gas.

I clean my CAI every 4-5k miles. That seems good, and its never too dirty when I do clean it.

Yes..using higher octane gas in a regular car can actually hurt performance a little because it burns so slow, and can also effect the emmisions.

How do you clean it?
With water and a air hose..that's what I do with mine.

You need a K&N filter recharge kit so you can re-oil it. Don't use an air hose! It says that right in the instructions b/c it is too strong.

You spray the "gunk loosener" on, let it sit a few minutes, use a low pressure hose with no nozzle and put it down the inside, effectively washing the dirt off w/o getting any inside the filter. After everything is clean (the filter will be whiteish), let it COMPLETELY dry. After its dry, reaply the oil that came in the kit. Then you can put the filter back in.

I simply replace mine..

One of my friends simply washes his with warm water, and doesnt oil.. And he feels that its still as efficient.

Oh sorry guys, that was for a CAI. Accord Man, you have an intake, don't you? You just replace the expensive filter on it?

He's in Canada, but that's still expensive for me. A K&N recharge kit is $12 and it will work 6-7 times I think.

Wow! Thanks for all the good advice. Yeah, how stupid of me, I forgot to add in my earlier post, what I would need to clean the air filter. But now I know.

Aight, I've been using higher octane gas recently. I guess I've been losing out on those cents per gallon. Back to 87 for me then.
