Bouncy Ride!?

Ok, I have searched for "suspension" and I think I couldn't find enough about it. My car has been acting up recently after I put the second subwoofer in the trunk, it basicly bounced high on bumps, and makes some noise, even on the streets. It sounds like its coming from the back.. Hmm, how could I say this? its not screechy and it sounds like springs going up and down, but real loud! I think its my suspension, but it could be my subwoofers, afterall I did make them myself and theyre not all that. Any help would be appreciated. Maybe I can get it fixed for cheap?

you dont try very hard...try other words when searching. You will almost never get it on your first try.

Have you looked at your bushings?
Shocks still good?

After you once-over your car...look at your craftsmanship on your sub box.

Are the speakers secured well?
Is the box secured well to the car?
Are the sides of the box tight?
Is there plexi on it?

There are lots of things that it could be...take a look at it.

its coming from bottom of the car, I secured my subwoofer so it cant be it. I thinks its the shocks. How much will it cost me? I dont got much money for it anymore so Im planning to get em done cheap if that is the problem. The car sounds more like Im hitting bumps when Im not. And the ride is very bumpy, so its got to be the shocks right? forgot to even say, the freeway ride sucks because when Im going 70 on the highway and come across a little bump, it will be a big one where you have to hold the steering wheel with two hands.

it could be shocks
it could be bushings
...like I said. Take a look at both.

A bad shock w/ cause a bumpy, soft, squishy type of ride...since there is no dampening.

A bad bushing can cause a thud.

If it handles poorly over bumps look at the front suspension parts.

Since you really dont have a clue what youre looking at/for...maybe you need to take it in for a pro to take a look. Though dealerships are the most expensive...theyre also the best trained for hondas (duh).

It sounds like it could be the shocks, does it make kind of a knocking noise as well? How many miles on the car? Seems odd that they would go so soon being an '01. Are your roads real bad in your area, could be that plus the added weight of your subs. You can get cheap shocks but you get what you pay for, try the wreckers you should be able to get some for a reasonable price.

the roads are fine. everytime i site in the back the car makes noises like you know when your down hill and pressing the brakes make some noise. Thats the sound that the back makes. Everytime I put weight in the back seatit makes a noise like that.
The car was bought used.

your brakes shouldnt make noise unless theyre worn out or you have very aggressive pads.

so its a squeel sound then?

How much weight are we talking about, for it to make the sound?

(Can you try some commas or spacing? I have to read your posts several times to even get a confused idea of what youre trying to say.)

The car does not leak any oil. But the ride is so bumpy, you got to hold the steering wheel with two hands on highways. Or even in the streets, the car gets really bumpy, only in the back.

Look for oil on the shock itself...not the ground
Theyre not that big...they cant leak forever - one good bump would empty it almost completely.

You can remove the shock and compress it - if it pushes back its good.
You can look for collected dirt/debris on the shock as well as brownish oil.
You/friend watch while you/friend drives and see if the wheels bounce off the road.

If your car is really BOUNCING then it's bad shocks...

Push down HARD on the back of the car while it's parked... how many times does it bounce before it settles...

you have to push the car down like an inch or two at least...

it should only bounce once or twice... if it bounces more than that you have blown shocks.

They're cheap... I'd go with a decent aftermarket brand as obviously the stockers suck... KYB GR2's are nice and cheap... talk to hondamaniac
