The big problem with turning the rotors is that there isn't much room to work with before they go out of spec. It's one thing to turn them when you get new pads, another to turn them to take out warpage.

Using your brakes at high speeds for any length of time (~60-65+) will warp the rotors quick. Also running hot rotors through nice cold puddles of water will warp them pretty easily.

If the pedal pulses then it's probably pretty bad, but I always tend to have a little warpage in my rotors....not a big deal unless your braking efficiency goes down.
