On my laptop, when I look at the screen normally the illusion works. However if I look at the screen from an extreme angle, such as placing my head above the top of the screen so I see it at a ~150 degree angle rather than the usual 90 degree perpendicular view, then the squares match in color.

That's because your brain interprets it differently and is able to see that.
It's an illusion played on our brain!
