i moved over 500 miles from home just 4 hours after my graduation ceremony, and i haven't seen any of my highschool friends since june '98. trust me, your friends have it a little worse than you do. adjusting to a new place where you don't know ANYBODY sucks.
i don't know if you have the luxury of living in/near a city, but i went out and saw bands and stuff on a regular basis and would just talk to anybody who seemed approachable. it's what you have to do, even if you're extremely shy like i am. you'll find new people to chill with - just give it some time.
as for the rich kids... i live in a ridiculously wealthy town and i have a LOT of nice toys (like the nissan 300zx i had when i turned 16, or my home theater setup, or any of my guitars), but you can rest assured that they weren't donated by mommy and daddy. i've worked my ass off to get everything i have. while the description you gave is very true in most cases, don't assume it always is. you can't hate someone for being more successful or more wealthy, but you CAN get to know them. who knows... it may just get you ahead in life. (or at least they might let you drive their sweet rides!
