i too followed the same logic....go for the best and now i own an '01 B18C5. ups: most hp of the B-series engines, prestigue, high revving right out of the box, mild hand port and polished head stock, simple drop in, lots of aftermarket support (there are even turbo kits from HKS and Apexi' in japan), lots of JDM stuff. downs: high compression limits the FI capabilities making it almost exclusively a NA engine, price, H22A power but no H22A torque (its all about the revs tho)! bottom line its a badass engine IMHO
