Well...the reference to rap and rap videos was only half joking, but I do see a direct correlation between the two. In the 80's hair metal bands glorified women as sex objects. While it's certainly not respectful, I don't see how you can compare it to a video or song in which violence towards women is frequently mentioned in an almost casual way. Tell me you haven't noticed that the rise in popularity of rap (especially among retarded suburban teens) hasn't correlated with the replacement of the word "woman" or even "girl" with the word "bitch" (and yes, I'm well aware that such terminology has been around for a long time, but it's become incredibly more pervasive). Yeah...the 80's were pretty sexually exploitative, at least as far as movies and ads went, but that doesn't mean the 90's or this decade were/is any less so. It's just more subversive. It's just that these days people get their panties in a twist when they see something as sexually suggestive as...say...Paris Hilton washing a car while eating a hamburger. And god forbid you see a nipple during the halftime show at the superbowl. That's like swearing in church! Maybe if people relaxed a little our attitudes towards sex and gender relations would relax as well. If anyone here has ever been to Europe then you know commercials on regular TV frequently feature nudity. I don't see Europeans getting nearly as worked up about shit like this.
As much as it pains me to do so, I have to agree with Rob that some girls out there have brought it upon themselves by the way they dress and the way they carry themselves (it doesn't pain me because I agree with Rob, but rather to make that connection

). So many girls grow up believing that they can get by in life on their looks alone and there are millions of men out there just waiting to prove them right. That's not to say that if a woman is showing some skin that she's just asking to be mistreated...far from it. But if a man can't make the distinction between admiring a woman's body for what it is and feeling the uncontrolable urge to fondle her, he has ceased to be a man. Statistically 1 in 3 woman will be sexually assaulted in their lifetime. So if you have a mom and two sisters...well...you do the math.
