Todays history lesson:

In a weird way, Arnel is Asian. Before names for regions like the Pacific Rim existed (which is where the Phillipenes fall), there was simply Occidental and Oriental. Occidental was pretty much Europe and Russia while Oriental was everyone else (the Middle East and Asia). After white Europeans realized that Middle Easterners (then the Ottoman Empire) looked quite different than, say, Chinese folks the less general term of Asian was used. Thus, Arnel is Asian.

By the way, any of you whacky Asians know why it's considered offensive to call someone Oriental these days?
