I honestly think my main problem was that through the entire movie they tried to keep the tension level high. That works well in short bursts, but it's impossible to keep it FOR THE WHOLE MOVIE. After a while I just stopped caring what would happen next. And how in the fucking world did his retarded son survive and then actually make it where they were going before the dude and his daughter? His son was about as sharp as a bag of wet hair, so how did he even find his way back? That...and much like the movie "Signs", I always hate the idea of aliens mastering the not-so-trivial science of intergalactic travel without realizing that the basic building blocks of life will kill them (bacteria...water...nope, we don't have enough of either here.
