For bracket racingI'd always use an auto. Sure, you loose a bit of power through the drivetrain, but you've also got torque multiplication with the converter and bracket racing is all about consistency. No chance for missed shifts and the like. AutoX/SCCA/NASA is all about a manual. It's hard to keep an auto exactly where you want it in the powerband for AutoX'ing.
