ah..i was wrong about my comments on SATA. SATA is NOT powered through the same bus as data.
There are two choices for powering SATA devices. You can use the standard molex connector that you use for everything else OR a specific SATA power connector. the specific connector only comes with newer power supplies. It looks similar to the data cable, except the power one is longer.
You cannot use both SATA power and molex power (12v, 5v) at the same time. it is either-or.
Just wanted to clear that up. my bad.
