Think of a bus as a datapath that is able to be used in either direction. Well basically the front side bus connects the processor with the memory, northbridge, AGP slot, etc. The term is being faded out with the 64-bit CPUs on the market, but that's the gist of it. Raising the FSB out of spec is one way to overclock your CPU on motherboards that will allow it.
