You'd be amazed how small motors get. We had an assignment in my auto fundamentals class my first semester here to find the world's smallest internal combustion engine. Turns out it's a rotary engine about the size of a penny being developed at (if memory serves me) UC Berkley as a battery of sorts. Their prototpye produced enough power to run a laptop for about 3-4 hours on a shot glass full of butane or similar gas and had zero emissions (unless you count water vapor). They were looking to double it's power output and efficiency.
