Datsun was never bought by Nissan. Nissan was always the parent company of Datsun, they just marketed their automobiles under the Datsun name. Datsun was changed to Nissan in 84, hence the reason you will see Datsun and Nissan logos on some of the 84 Z's. by 85, it was the Nissan 300ZX. The last year of the 280Z's was 1978, then in 1979 a new 2nd generation car was made debuting as the "280ZX". They also made 1000 special edition 280ZXR's that year. The R stands for racing. The one I raced though was a 77' 280Z, which only has about 170HP.
