The thing w/ different springs and stock shocks is that the ride quality is ass and the longevity of the shocks is very limited (some less than 1yr).
If you drop a car low enough you need to get a camber kit to correct the camber angle of the wheels (lowering makes a wheels go from | | to / \ That will cause uneven wear on the tires...and will piss you off because they wear out quicker then.
The right way to do suspension is Shocks, Springs (or full coilover setup combination), camber kits (if dropped enough or for rd racing). Other things can, of course, be added like upper and lower stabilizing bars and larger/addition of sway bars.
Do not get cheap on suspension.
Spend the money and be happy/safe with it and only have to do it once.
Oh, and after suspension work is done, an alignment is needed. They are not cheap and they take time to do.
