Yes...I can
Real hip hop is The Quannum Collective (DJ Shadow, Blackalicious, Latryx, Lyrics Born, Lateef, etc.), Jurassic 5, The X-Ecutioners, The Invisible Skratch Piklz, MC Paul Barman, Mos Def and so on.
Rap is trite. It's easy to pick out by it's beats and it's philosophy. Most of it involves some manner of wannabe violence or masogony on a canvas of played out beats and samples that have been used a thousand times before by other artists (and sweet fucking christ I use the term "artist" loosely). Dr. Dre, for example used to be a great hip hop producer in the days of NWA. Then he decided he wanted to take the mic and turned his talents into crap which he continues to parlay by way of Eminem and other artists who should die in their sleep and be forgotten about entirely (because if they died real deaths people might pay attention...attention unworthy of their lives). His beats and samples have become so redundant that I can play Dre rythyms and melodies on my guitar...and the guitar is the antithesis of rap. That is the essence of rap. Solely unoriginal and uninspired...it's just an easy cash cow for retarded suburbanite (mostly white) kids who like to think they're cool. You want real black culture? Listen to Latryx or Mos Def. You want cookie cutter bullshit? Keep listening to G-Unit and Jay Z.
