I'm a big fan of oxy-acetylene welding myself...although MIG would come in handy more for what you want. Oxy is just so much easier...once you know the melting points of different metals and the temperature of a neutral flame it's all cake. Metal Inert Gas (MIG) isn't quite as easy. If I were you I'd take the shit to a shop if you don't know the whole deal yourself. Welding is sooooo easy to fuck up that it's one of the few things I'm not ashamed to take to a shop to have done.
