I am disappointed to see so many Bimmer bashers.
BMWs are excellent automobiles with some of the most advanced technology (745i, variable length intake manifold), to some of the most daring design statements (Z8), to some of the most versatile interior ergonomics and functionality (teutonic though it remains) out there. I agree, they are rather pricey, but they are a premium commodity that has been, is now, and always will be in very strong demand, depending on model to a great degree. The bottom line is that they are well worth the cash if you plan to keep them and they are maintained well.
VANOS is a brilliant valve timing system and is as tunable as VTEC, though, again, at a premium (DINAN). The interiors are impecable and amazingly comfy, even for someone as tall as myself, whether 1992 530 or 2002 330. This is just my opinion. If the funds were available I would definitely own a new BMW....in addition to no less than 2 Hondas (NSX and present Accord).
