The futility of politics
When I was younger someone told me a quote. It was along the lines of "Be wary of anyone involved in politics. The people who are smart enough to be in office are the ones smart enough to not get involved in politics.". I used to laugh at that thought but it's become more and more apparent that it's true. True, there are well meaning politicians out there (though they are few and far between), but they're good intentions are usually screwed up by advisors, public polls, and the like. And politics is such a moot social point. If you don't agree with someone (i.e. republican talking to a democrat) then you end up doing point counterpoint the whole time and no one's mind is changed i nthe least. If you're with like-minded people all you do is ***** and moan about the other side of the table and while you walk away feeling like you made some good points, nothing is really accomplished. We probably have the most registered political parties of any nation in the world, yet we think of ourselves as a bicameral system...seldomly relying on an independent or other candidate to fill public office. Why don't you ever see a candidate from the American Liberal Nazi Green party on TV (no, I didn't make that party up...it's real). All you see is Repub. vs. Democrat. I'm ready to give up altogether.

Someday, in the event that mankind actually figures out what it is that this world actually revoles around, thousands of people are going to be shocked and perplexed that it was not them. Sometimes this includes me.
