Don't know where your located, but in Cali, you can get a 92 240sx, for about 1200 - 1500 dollars. Then you can get an sr20dt s13 engine for around 1500 dollars. Thats 3000 grand. With about 2000 left over for install and mods. Turining it into a 180sx or s13. Your friends choice. If you can install yourself the better.

Just an alternate route, in case he wants to go Rear wheel drive.
