If it were me having $2500 at my disposal and making a whopping $5.15/hour I would consider a few things...
1. What expenses do you have? Seeing that you are 17, you are probably still living with parents and going to high skool. You are going to want to figure out how much you have to pay for and if you can afford a car.
2. Are you going to get any help financially if the car breaks? 5.15 isn't a whole lot to be making and if you are paying your own mechanical bills, a 5.15/hr wage will quickly catch up with you. And I see that you are wanting an import, which traditionally aren't cheap to fix. Also you can easily buy a dud at $2500.

And well, those are all of the examples I can think of off the top of my head to keep in mind in terms of money. You do have to keep in mind though, that a 2500 dollar import is going to be relatively slow and with 5.15/hr, mods are going to come very slowly with long gaps in between. If I were you I would try to wait until you had more money for the car and more to put into it, or if you need a car badly, don't look so much at modifying it and get something that will work decently until you can afford something better.

And if I had 2500 to spend on a car with no worries on it breaking or to pay for insurance, or any of that jazz, I would look for a Probe GT (about a 93), Celica GT (about a 91), or an older integra (about a 91). My top pick would be the probe just because of the decently quick v6.
