I can more easily see someone falling for blinker fluid. C'mon, most people know nothing about cars so you can really pull a lot over on the majority of drivers if it sounds even remotely technical. How do you think some mechanics stay in business? Replace a few flux capacitors here and there and you're rolling in the money.
BUT, sandpaper and paint are way beyond cars. Who here has made it to driving age without knowing what sandpaper is? Who here wouldn't be able to look at 80 grit and see what it would do to your paint? Considering what it would do to your skin, you should suspect paint isn't too different a story. If that person believed 80 grit would give his car a lustrous shine then he's just plain stupid and gullible, that asshole is probably doing this idiot a favor by teaching him a good lesson. People that stupid are the same ones who give thousands of dollars to the Nigerian bank scam. There's a huge difference between lack of technical knowledge (blinker fluid) and total lack of intuitive ability (80 grit).
I'm not saying that guy on the board was a nice person about it, I don't think his initial post was too bad but he could have been slightly more compassionate.....then again, stupid things happen to stupid people.
I'm also not entirely convinced that this person didn't play along well for the whole thing.....
