My friend's dad owns a body shop, and I have asked him several times. He says "To get it done right, you're looking $3500 to $4000"... ouch. But that's dis-assembling the car and sanding down to the metal, re-primer, re-paint, and several clear coats. That is for a factory-quality paint job.
On the other hand, SlowEJ6 got a pretty sweet deal. I think he paid just over $300 (for labor) plus the paint and got his whole car redone. It looked pretty good except for a few small details. But since the car had a paint-guarentee, he just took it back until the guy got it right...
When all is said and done, when it comes to getting a paintjob, you get what you pay for.
