This isnt always true. Because an auto tranny is computer controlled to shift to give the best gas mileage with the throttle demand. Now with the manual if you shift at like 4 1/2 5k rpms then you will tear through gas a lot quicker than one that shifts at like 3 1/2 4k rpms because of less demand on the fuel...
