i didn't actually lose $40, i just didn't get it.
it was a survey i was filling out, and the pay was $40 for about 15 minutes of time, but i didn't get past the initial screening....i got to the last screening question though!
if i had just checked the other answer

any of you guys fill out surveys on the net for some cash? i am in on a couple sites, only the free ones though. they pay you $4 here, $10 there, and almost $40!
if you guys want some free survey sites let me know, and i'll send you links. like i said they are free, and they don't ask for CC info, or spam you or anything like that.
not a bad way to generate some cash, especially if you are like me and you sit at the computer all day
it works out pretty good though, in about a month i have made about $60 or so just filling little 10 minute surveys out. i have only done about 10 of them too, they're not everyday and you don't get bombarded with them.
i am happy with the results though....its paying for my video game collection....speaking of which i have to go save princess zelda. that crazy girl, she's always getting herself in the wildest perdicaments
