It might not be what I would typically choose to listen to...but if it's playing I'll listen to it cuz I have an open mind to what other people choose to listen to and who knows....I might end up really liking it. But yes I'm a 50 cent, Jay-Z, Ludacris, Busta Rhyms, Missy Elliot etc etc fan. And if that means I don't know what music is...then so be it...but at least I'm enjoying what I'm listening to.

First of all, this isn't about good taste or bad taste. Like the old saying goes, there's no accounting for taste. All I'm saying is that rap isn't technically music. Old school hip hop was cool because it was new. It was basically just stories that ryhmed with a beat. Then there was all the splintered forms of hip hop like the aforementioned 16 ball ryhme style and hip hop reggae. But then comes rap. It takes an enormously lesser amount of talent to produce a rap song. No, I don't want to hear about how many people you've killed or what kind of car you roll in or how much you gots in you teef. If you're not trying to convey anything rather than the fact that you want me to buy your album or dance to your shitty song in a club then you're a waste of perfectly good space and you're breathing up all of our air. I'm not trying to tell you what to like or to dictate what "good taste" is, but I can tell you definitively what music isn't. Right now I'm listening to Nick Drake, but next on my playlist is No Use For A Name, then NOFX, then Onelinedrawing, then Latryx, then Blackalicious, then Bad Religion, Then Downthesun, then Atreyu, then Today Is the Day, then some Run DMC. True musical diversity isn't simply accepting whatever MTV or the radio throws at you because it's got a good hook as you seem so ready to do. It's about realizing what MAKES those forms of music and individual songs different and acknowledging those difference. And hey, I feel free to "trash" what other people like if it is, in fact, trash. I'm just saying that you shouldn't ever support the glorification of someone's ego simply for commercial gain. Do you really car if 50 Cent rolls in a Bentley with 20" Daytons? Probably not. So why listen to him talk about it. I'm not by any means whatsoever against hip hop or the culture. The very first tape I ever bought was Run DMC's "Raising Hell" and I DJ hip hop at parties now and then. That's why it pisses me off so much that the above mentioned artists have perversed the hip hop culture and turned into one that many view as violent and self serving. And can you blame them? Eminem's got a song talking about taking his little daughter with him to dump his wife in a ****in lake. I'm all about letting people say what they want in any forum they want, but it's up to you to know that such statements reflect on what kind of human being you are and if that's what you wanna sing about then you're a piece of shit. Sorry...that's just the way it goes. There's a little something called tact and rap doesn't have any.
