hey i have to write an essay for my class :(
the topic is

To what extent are religions simply systematic responses to the problems of pain and suffering? What other problems or realities do religious impulses address?

Religion is an "impulse" or "response"? Dude, what kind of class is this?

You're probably already done, but reading your question I thought of describing the Taoist evolution from primal mysticism (as a specific response to dealing with life's hardships) to its modern incarnation as a deeper, more intellectual philosophy. That might be a cool response.
