Any good?

Are the OBX Hi flow catalytic converters on ebay any good? Here is a link. What do you think?

i've never heard anything about them, except their exhaust systems are too loud for nothing.

oc civic 12-02-2002 09:25 AM

reading your mods i think it would be over kill... i think that it is something you MAY want to consider if you are in a forced induction or SERIOUS all motor setup.... if you are looking to eak out some more power id hit the other side of the formula

more air + more fuel + more spark = more power

you have been focusing soley on air.. (from teh mods in your list) so now pick up the slack... maybe MSD kit, or adjustable fuel pressure regulator... are you staying all motor or going with F/I? cause that has a lot to do with the advice id offer...

on a side note. i try to ONLY buy quality stuff... adn as far as cats go random technology is who i would go to...;)

4jacks 12-02-2002 01:27 PM

Seriously, your existing MOD's have nothing to do with a Good Performance Cat.
And people ONLY buy "quality stuff" ONLY get Robbed a Lot.

think about this
Do you want to go lets call it a "tiny bit street illegal"
the best Gain you can get out of a Cat, is to Jam a Paddle Drill Bit down your Existing Cat. Meaning you have no Cat at all.

If you have to take emmissions very often, and do not want to go to a junk yard, and invest in a swap cat for those times, then you don't want to do that.

But that's what i"m going do , when i get off my lazy @$$.

Second, do you want to PAY for a STAINLESS STEEL finish on a part of the car, that no one but your Repair Mechanic will ever see.

yeah me neither,

OBX is a decent affordable Brand. However, a Catalytic converter is not a Complicated Thing, with moving parts, and High Quality grade 5 steal and BLAH BLAH BLAH ... A Catalytic converter is a Peice of Pipe, with a Honey Comb of Ceramic inside of it, A monkey could make one. Its heavy and very exhaust restricting.
Racing Cats, are simply a Piece of pipe, with a ceramic honey comb in it, cept the holes in the ceramic are a little bigger, letting a little more air through. Point Being, you get as much gain out of a decent $50 Cat as a $199 Name brand Cat.

just my 2 cents

do you honestly think you can not have TOO much air flow and not enough fuel and spark.... and do you not think that no cat is over kill for his application?

hell if thats the case we should all just run a straight pipe off the manifold (or header) and jet it right out the fender..

hmmmm....thats a very good idea oc, that would look cool as hell, kinda kills your backpressure, but it would be original :) I say we try it for the hell of it and see what happens :pfft:

definately not original.. most PRO level drag cars have SIMILAR exhaust setups... i imagine you need that to handle 800 hp... but i would tend to think that 150-200 hp can be managed with much less craziness;)

Senshi 12-02-2002 09:25 PM

BE LIKE ME AND HAVE NO CAT, OR RESONATOR ^_^

ebpda9 12-03-2002 09:28 AM

i dunno about that cat but my friend and i took an 89 celica GT(my friend's) to the e-check without a cat and it passed. the engine had about 150k miles on it.

1badcivic 12-07-2002 12:33 AM

I am definately gonna cut the resonator off but I don't know about the cat. If I do it I'm gonna get a aftermarket one. Does it mess up your car not having a cat converter? Also does it make it loud and obnoxious(sp?) ? If so that's the way i like it *LOL* piss some ppl off lol

PS we don't have emissions tests in Al either :)

switch to OBD1 and go under the car locate teh header (or manifold) unbolt whatever is hooked to it... it will be loud and obnoxious

All-Motor EG6 12-07-2002 11:28 AM

Yeah, and its real easy to convert to OBD-1, Skunk2 sells the adapter, and then just find an ECU. Plus its easier to make ECU Upgrades on an OBD1 ECU.

By the way, whats up OC Civic.

Off Topic...

i see lsvtec and crvtec in your signature.... i can get a gsr head for almost nothing.... tell me about what i need to do to put it on an LS block

All-Motor EG6 12-07-2002 11:36 AM

I know, bigtime OT, and I hate to post a link, but here

http://www.racingknowledge.org/forum...p?TOPIC_ID=245

that should tell you just about everything you need to know about building an LS/Vtec. Any other question PM me.

ChrisCantSkate 12-07-2002 11:52 AM

i had a long screwdriver kinda fall into my cat from my hand and it took out my honeycomb.... i can call it an accedent.:bandit: but seriosly, sure making the parts for a cat are simple, but everything OBX i've seen or used blows ass. my friend got a replica short shifter for his 240sx from them... it was so shitty, didnt go in gears right.. replica... you'd think they could make a direct copy. and my short shifter adapter is a DC replica, but once again they fugged it up, theres play in the tranny cables.... but its a replica... you'd think they can get that right. dont get me going on mufflers.... wasit of money. buy a true cat back with a quality can on the end.

oc civic 12-07-2002 12:44 PM

does busting otu the cat give you c cel?

ChrisCantSkate 12-07-2002 07:32 PM

im obd1... not CEL for me, it will for you though
