Strengthening a Gearbox for Big Power

How do you go about strengthening you gearboxes for big HP???

I've just turbocharged my B16A engine with the works done to the internals, and now I want to make sure my Y21 gearbox doesn't break halfway down the 1/4 mile.

What are my options???

A Quaiffe is a must if your pushing a ton of power. There are a few companies out there that does make stronger gear sets for your Y21 but they are about 2500 bucks. You can however alter all the ratios in there.

Hmmm... expensive options, is there anything I can do that isn't as expensive?

Is the Integra Gearbox any better?

i'm not sure about the y21 tranny is that a manual or an auto ? i know www.levelten.com can bulletproof your tranny for up to 500hp and 500tq.

went to Level10's site, looks like they only do Auto's... They Y21 tranny is a manual.

give them a call. they should make them if not do a search on google. i came up once with a lot of companies that modified trannies but i haven't saved the links

I wouldnt worry about the y21 holding up. It can take abuse but like every honda tranny the diff is the weak point.

BTW i make over 500whp on a y21 with jsut a Quaiffe. That is the only upgrade to the tranny

the only other thing i'd be worried about would be clutch and then your syncros''' honda syncros like to go bad, i doubt 500hp would slow it down at all

Thanks for the info, I'll look around for a Quaiffe Diff.

What price should I be looking at?

850 i think
