What would cause this?

Well we were driving around earier tonight, i was pulling out of this parking lot when my front bumper scraped a little bit, ok no big deal..
Now on to the problem at the next corner i used my left blinker and it was blinking fast, which means there is a porblem... so i get out and look and sure enough the front left blinker isn't blinking. so i went to walmart bought a replacment bulb. Got it in and still...the same thing. What would make it do this? the bulb lights up but doesn't blink.....any ideas?

did you do anything with your light like did you put new one's in.

4jacks 11-20-2002 09:58 PM

you probably knocked your wiring loose somewhere

drdingo21 11-20-2002 10:02 PM

yea, there is a new bulb in there...how could i know the wiring loose?

ShEaNy 11-20-2002 10:04 PM

just go underneath the front there and look for any loose wires around the bumper light...that should be the problem..

get your self a voltmeter, take your front bumper off... and start playing with stuff

I had the same problem one time man. What happened was that my socket that you put the bulb in went bad, and I don't know why. I had to replace it. What you need to do before checking any of that wiring stuff is to take off your front bumper, take the socket from the working side and replace the bad side socket with the good one and see if it works. If it does, then it is the socket. If it is the socket, then I know that the 92-95 model civics have the same socket that the 96-00 does. Hope that helps.

how does the socket come off?

There is like a little push button...you push and pull it...it is where the harness meets the socket.

Yup, sounds like wiring to me if you checked the bulb.

ebpda9 11-21-2002 09:06 AM

i think it's just the socket messed up. they look so cheap and wimpy to me.

Promo2000 11-21-2002 06:26 PM

Just a remark!
Remember NOT to touch the bulbs, some bulbs when touched the grease that u have in your hand would ruin it.

drdingo21 11-21-2002 06:51 PM

not these, they are just normal bulbs... plus there is no way to get it out with out touching the bulb...it rained all day to day so i didn't get a chance to try it yet...

Almighty-Si 11-21-2002 11:25 PM

Before you go ahead and replace the socket, take a small screwdriver and scrape the little copper connectors in the socket, re-install the bulb and check it again. It could also be you may have got a bad bulb, take one from somewhere else and see if it still doesn't work.

get a dang on voltmeter,,... screw that take this apart take that apart .... just use the dang on volt meter

drdingo21 11-23-2002 07:20 AM

alright fixed it. I took out the light and twisted the socket out of the light house and went to turn the blinker on so i could test it with me Volt meter, and it worked! the connector must have jarred lose when i laid the front of the car into the ground

SilVtec 11-23-2002 05:38 PM
