Newbie of Newbies

Ok, i just got a 2002 honda civic LX. It was a gift from some nice grandparents :). Reguardless, I have been looking at modifications non stop since I recieved it. I was looking at the specs for the LX vs. the EX. VTECH is this thing that comes standard with the EX engine. Does the VTECH give EX owners a big advantage? I was wondering what you experts would suggest to make my LX have a little more ummph. I haven't done anything, so I would like the most practicle choice first, then to the more extreme. Any suggestions on websites also would appreciated. Thank you very much.

Welcome to HS.

First lesson - Its VTEC, not vtech

I apologize for my spelling error, however, does the person who has the "VTEC" have it up on a person without one? Even if put in a few add ons?

No biggie on the spelling, but some people will give you crap for it, so I thought I'd let you know.

Its not a magical thing. Its only really noticable on DOHC motors making more power. I you have some add-ons, you could take an EX.

A few more questions, the car I have is automatic (not by choice), how is that looked upon by the "hondastyle" majority? I know manuals are the thing for these cars, but It was not an option in my case. So what would you reccomend to a person with an automatic transmission? :hmmm:

All the same mods are good for an auto. In reality, if you really want performance, the only option for your civic is an engine swap / turbo. Bolt-ons cost a lot and give small gains.

So what do you think are the most practicle upgrades I should make? Without having to replace the engine? I want better proformance, with out going overboard.

Best way to figure that out is to figure out what you have to spend ($$$).

$1k and under?
$3k?

noctividus 10-31-2002 01:55 AM

1K and under...

ebpda9 10-31-2002 09:49 AM

welcome to hs dude. happy hondastylin' :cigar:

as far as the auto tranny goes you can get a torque converter from http://www.levelten.com/store/import..._converter.htm and that will beat on manuals.

for mods under 1k you could go intake (AEM), header, exhaust, then you could get a nitrous kit

for 3k you could get yourself a nice turbo.

if you got a bit of money... k20 rsx-s engine  but basicaly, the vtec on sohc engines is an attempt to increase power without ruining gas milage

http://www.leecao.com/honda/vtec/whatsvtec.html

read that... alot of info on vtec. im posting that link in high performance too.

Ok, a few more questions. I have been looking at Intakes, and I've noticed that they are mostly geared toward the manual versions of the civic. What intakes would you reccomend for me? I have a 2002 LX automatic. Thanks again for the advice.
