How do you guys paint your plastic vents and door handles?
I spraypainted my door handles and vents with some FLAT Krylon paint about a year ago. I have had no chipping problems, but i have had to be carefull to keep them clean because they are not clear coated. Do you guys have any suggestions? Thanks alot.

Ya i painted my interior about about a 2 months ago and did clear coats those area but i've experienced no chipping, but you ain't lying about being carefull to keep them clean. But just go to a local auto parts store or even wal-mart and pick up a clear coat agent and that should do it. |
how'd u do the vents?
|
sanded em down, cleaned them with windex (just to wipe any sand residue off), sprayed them
|
i meant, how do u take em out? do they just pop out or what
|
they have like an adhesive glue holding them on, i used a hairdryer to get mine off

The ones that are small right? I have no idea how to get them out. |
ic ic.......
uh, how'd u do the handles? can u take them off, or do u just cover the surrounding area around the handles and spraypaint/clearcoat them from there? if so, how did u get under the actual handle? |
the handle actually has a screw hidden under the pulling handle to open the door//the vents just pop out, place dimes on the sides to get leverage then pop out with a flathead
|
are .. they held in with glue tho?
|
nope clips watch out not to break them

conflicting info!! ahhh.. do you know how to get the side "bump guard" parts off the door for painting? I can only locate one screw. will i have to take the door apart? |
Don't know about the bump guard stuff, I'm trying to figure that stuff out myself...
as for your vents and what not: BE DAMN CAREFUL! I broke my center vent while painting so now I have no control over which way it points air. Don't force anything if it feels like its gonna break, cause its plastic and it will. If you do break somethin, buy some jb weld and hope that works. Use several coats of paint in non-humid weather. |
Basic Paint Info : Gloss finish paints are much easier to clean than Flat finish

i painted my with regular car paint then cleared them i used ebp to match the ext. of the car i just wax them every couple of months and they look great. its really worth the extra money to buy the car paint and clear and take your time then it wont come out lookin ricey

I think the gloss ones will chip easier. |

CAR PAINT!!! wow, why didnt i think of that (DUUUHHHHH). |
I painted my interior plastic pieces with car paint from wal-mart and it looks good 3 months later...not sure of the brand but its the paint that they put with the high heat engine enamel.
