Air Conditioner
Is it true that if you use ac alot, it hurts your engine?
And when I brake, i can feel the steering wheel shaking a lil bit. Its jut a little shake while braking. What is it? |

Neh, I don't think so. AC is a belt driven accessory, so it robs a little power, but I can't see it harming the engine in the long run. |
*hurts*..
it put more stress on the engine, in the sense that to achieve a given amount of acceleration you'd have to press more on the accelerator. So yes, then engine will need to work more. When in stop and go traffic, I'd avoid using the A/C. And never switch on the A/C when you're going fast (30+ mph).. Actually you should turn it on when you're rolling at the slowest speed possible, this pust the least amount of stress on the compressor. |
yup whatever has been said before. i kind of do not agree with turning the AC on when rolling. i don't know but on my car the compressor has like an electronic clutch ( controllet by the ATCU) and it won't engage all at once. it's more like you let the clutch slip a bit instead of dropping it.

I've never thought about how fast I was going when I hit the A/C button. I just hit it. No problems so far, and I haven't heard of this being a problem before.

not on mine either. |
the compressor will match the speed your going at.
So the greater the difference, the greater the impact. This isnt news. I just said it for you guys to realize whats going on and spare your compressors. |

yup but i don't care about ac too much. i use it only when my windows start to fog up, and most likely the ac will go out of the car in the spring |

LOL, alright.. thanks for sharing! :D :D |
As far as your steering wheel shaking, sounds like your rotors may be warping a bit :(
|
Is it vehicle speed or engine speed one must worry about the most?
I would definitely say don't leave you A/C on when you turn on/off the car. Going 0-2000 rpm in a split second is hell on a compressor. Also I would avoid turning it on/off with a high engine speed. This is the first I've heard of vehicle speed having anything to do with it, please elaborate. Another thing to note, though, is that while you're driving around the compressor isn't running non-stop. It switches itself on/off. I can always notice when it switches on/off because my power changes significantly for the better when it goes off, and I start to get warmer in the car..... b |

and you make a good point with the on compressor on and off during the time the ac is running. if it wouldn't be safe the ac wouldn't have turned itself on and off. |
I took my ac out so i have no clue but the shaking is ur rotors warping, I have cross drilled rotors on mine but they warped somehow and my car shakes like hell. just go get the rotors machined and if it still shakes get an alignment that should take care of every thing
|
I already got a wheel alignment like 1 month ago. I think Im getting my rotors resurfaced (if its still good).
|
If i were u i would get the alignment checked again after u get the rotors machined the shakeing could throw it of a few degrees
