New laptop

i jsut got myself a laptop tonight. it's a winbook j4 with a p4 2.0 GHZ processor, 512k of cache and 512 mb of DDR pc2100 ram. also the hdd is a 30 gig one. Also the screen is a 15" ELCD (is not changing colors when you look at a different angle at it. what do u think ? is it worth it for $1500. most of the desktops i've been looking at were 1300 with the same speed and power, so for 200 i leaned towards the laptop.

I've heard their machines are reasonable. I just got a laptop, similar config but with 1 Gb ram, 40 gig drive. It's a dell, though, so much more $$$. The dvd/cdrw is sweet.

I dont like Winbooks at all. We've had so many problems with them. Hope you got a good warrenty.:o

ohiochica 09-18-2002 09:15 AM

who makes winbooks? racing rice what kind of problems? and since you hatethem so much, what kind can you recomend? i want it for work so it has to have a decent battery life and ability to connect via modem and network.
thanks

i did not hear about problems with them. anyway i got 1 year of warranty with it. maybe i'll get an extended one after the year is up

XdiscontensionX 09-18-2002 10:12 AM

ohiochica, what kind of work do you do, and what platform and price range are you looking at?

Racing Rice 09-18-2002 10:19 AM

Well, Ill admit. I havent really used any of the newer ones. We switched to getting Dells which have work super for us. The Winbooks werent very reliable. We were always having things fail on us and having tried to get things fixed. Maybe the new ones are better. Im not sure.

If I were going to buy one. Id be looking into a Dell.

Ohiochica.. Winbook makes Winbooks ;)

XdiscontensionX 09-18-2002 10:31 AM

agreed. dell is good stuff for a work environment, and they have long battery life too.
