What exactly is SPL?

ok i have read a few posts with people talking about reaching certain SPL levels like 140 for example...but what exactly is it and how or where do you get it measured?

Sound pressure level

Its means how loud (intense) it gets. Or in other words, the level of atmospheric pressure at a given time.

In Db Drag the position of the mic is determined with a special measuring thingy, so that things will remain consistent (fair) from one car to another. For certain other competitions, such as IDBL, no restriction, you so could even stick in the port... For this years, IASCA measures with the mic roughly at the spot where the driver's head would be.

So it really depends.. If you do have yourself metered, do it with the mic a several places.. once on dash, then on the floor, where your head is, and real close to a port.

Most audio shops can measure it for ya.

yeah.. SPL is all about competition.. sure in the normal classes 99% of the time the higher SPL the louder your system sounds... but my friend has a "rig" pushing 176.x dB's(floridas port record) but sounds like ASS and isnt loud at all.... its only a show(competition) setup though
