Shout Outs
 

We added a cool new feature on the main page of the site called "Shout Outs". It's kind of a mini-message board. As long as it doesn't get abused, we'll keep this feature up and running.

Be nice - go post a shout out

Maybe I am just a freggin retard, but when I click the link, it takes me to the home page, and I can not find a "Shout Out" anywhere. :confused:

Well, no sooner did I open my big mouth...

... I've gone and temporarily suspended the Shout Out section. It seems as though this seemingly innocent little program is really bogging some people down with loadtime on the front page.

I am currently working on finding a solution to this problem.

How much memory was that thing consuming?

Caus I know it was slowing down some people's systems..
But was really beacaus of a slow internet connection ::no:: , or a slow ass computer?!? ::yes::

The program used java script - which I believe was bogging down the front page load time for dial-up connections. Yeah, I liked it too, but don't want to have people turning away from the site while waiting for the page to load - I know I'm impatient and won't wait too longer either... Don't despair, I'm still looking into it.

Thats exactly what I'm saying. Java is a big load on the processor. Generally not a file size (memory) issue. Do you get what I'm saying.

You should test this with somebody who has a half decent computer with a slow (56k) connection.

It's not like I was addicted to the shoutbox or anything, but I think it was nice rare feature. Appealing to the eye as well.

Chris-bring back the shout outs. I think it was a cool unique thing that most other sites didn't have. Hopefully, there will be a way to include it without bogging down the 56k members.

Like I said before, Its a processor issue (slow computer) & not really a slow connection thing.

I'm doing ok. Havent been on much lately cause of some problems. Having some problems with my fiance, kickin her out. Found a new one. Work has been hectic lately. I am working some things out and am good as new.

She already has. She always makes me smile and can cheer me up nomatter what. Hopefully, it will work out. I'm sure it will cause she absolutely just blows my mind.

Okay, it's back up and running with one small feature change. Assuming I wrote the code properly, the first time you load the front page, it is turned off (the header is visible though)... you just need to click the Shout Out banner to turn it on. It should now remain visible until you click to turn it off again...

Give it a whirl and let me know if it works properly.
