FeelMyRide 06-03-2002 09:20 PM

I know this is Off-topic here but if you remove the fabric from the doors.. whats behind it?? I wanna rip all the fabric off and paint the plastic (if thats whats there) behind it

ebpda9 06-03-2002 09:29 PM

cardboard (sp?)

mt.biker 06-03-2002 10:14 PM

i wouldn't go ripping it away hoping to paint it FMR... its gonna look dam bad!

heartbreakkid 06-03-2002 10:27 PM

i ripped out the plastic and try to paint it before but i tell you, it's harder than you thought because the thing behind the fabric made out of plastic and when u ripped the fabric, not everything would come out and still leave a lot of the old glue (or stuffz that they used to glue the fabric before) on the plastic so there is not way you can make it smooth, so jz grab the thing with vinyl dont paint it and dont rip out the fabric.

ok thanks ..now the glue thats holding the frabic ..is there somrthing thats would make it easy to wipe off or shoul di sand it down

4jacks 06-04-2002 08:37 PM

Some AFTA or OOPS or GOOF-OFF will help soften it up, but you'll still have a lot of scraping to do , and a light sanding would be nice.

azn_nite_ryder 06-05-2002 11:59 PM

if your gonna revinyl the cloth piece you can either put it over or remove the cloth piece.. either way you get the same thing... be sure tho not to use the thin cheap vinyl cuz then the finish wont be the same.... get the thicker stuff and the results will be much nicer

Whtehnda93DXSdn 06-06-2002 05:44 PM

when you remove the fabric you will have glue etc that will still be stuck to it...clean it off as best possible then you can go through and use your adhesive 3M 74 I think it is and apply the vinyl...

if you did want to paint that piec being that its plastice I would say use like resin or fiberglass to cover it then paint it so it would look ok and come out w/ a nice smooth finish..

Hope this might help a bit....

slowEJ6 06-06-2002 08:18 PM

leave the cloth on.....you dont want to paint the plastic cuz it will look like CRAP. leave the fabric on, vinyl over it. thats how i did mine and it was less work for me. go me.

LadyCivic 06-09-2002 01:31 PM

I agree with hybrid3doOrcrx. Why take off teh fabric when you can just Vinyl over it? The glue or whatever adhesive you use will adhere just fine to the fabric, as the fabric porbably has a really short nap to it (fuzz) and the glue will stick to that just fine. No point in wasting your time sanding and using solvents to get it off when it doesn't need to.
