Why modify I4...

Hello all, im not here to make fun of you, i only have a couple of questions.

why do you guys buy hondas, (I4 engines, around 120-150 hp???), and modify them with thousands of dollars, when you could buy a, lets say, pontiac grand prix GTP (240 hp supercharged), and modify it with $500 and have 300 hp.

Is the I4 more reliable? or is it the challenge of trying to make a slow car go fast?

NOTE: i dont drive a grand prix GTP, i just used it for an example.

I think its somewhat of a challenge, its pretty amazing what these little 4 bangers can pump out really. They often come in light weight cars for the most part.

What do you drive?

i drive a GTP, i just didnt want to be yelled at :)

forgot about the weight thing...

hehe, everyone's welcome here as long as they don't try to start trouble :)

Do you have anything done to your GTP, or is it still stock?

welcome to the non-flame honda site. we really don't. its pretty cool now that i think about it.

i think i like import cars (I4's) cause they are a challenge, are incredibly reliable, get amazing gas mileage (even when running pretty low ET's), and most of all.. there's a billion different things you can do to an I4. yeah yeah... you can do alot of stuff to v8's and whatever... but not near what all those japanese engineers have dreamed up.

well, personally, i think the styling(interior and exterior) and quality/durability of most american cars really really suck... but that's just my opinion. give me japanese or european engineering anyday... ;)

There are a million reasons to buy one car over another. If someone's sole criterion is owning a car with lots of horsepower, it doesn't make much sense to buy any 4-banger.

I own one car. It's my daily driver so it needs to be reliable and get good mileage. I like to drive, so peppiness and handling were second considerations. Finally, there's something to be said for a little customization no matter what kind of car you own. Just like landscaping your yard, home decoration or wearing the same colored socks, anything you spend lots of time around is a bit of an extension of yourself.

Fun, regardless of how inefficient the hp/$ is in modding.

p.s. my next car will be an mg or a fiat spyder, and I'll pour money into it even though I can't beat those 300 supercharged pontiac horses. :)

Good gas milage, good looks, a newer civic is not even close to as much cash as a GTP and the civic can go faster with the saved money put into it....tons of reasons we like 4 bangers...
and plus look at the S2000 ....that thing would smoke ur GTP and its a 4 banger...240 horse!.... and less weight! :smoking:

:| well i bought my Civic for $15,000 something.... what did your GTP Cost ???

That's the main reason...
I like the GTP its nice and all.... my brother drives one...
but it's not a car that you modify

your paying like $5-6K extra for a factory supercharger.. when it would be a lot cheaper and more power to buy the non-supercharged version, and slap a stage three turbo on it... or a larger supercharger.

But you have to remember... you just can't start comparing a 30K (I have no clue how much a new GTP cost) Car with a 16K car... all people shop cars on a budget... If I had 30K to spend on a car, I just might have looked at a GTP ... I would of been more likely to buy a Firebird though....

EDIT: I dont drive a GTP

later: i drive a GTP

starting off with a lie. way to go.

Maxvla 05-26-2002 09:37 PM

i noticed that as well.

wannaridemycoupe 05-27-2002 03:08 AM

LMAO....

Yea i also noticed that....and laughed really hard!!!:D

Violent Apathy 05-27-2002 10:30 AM

Moo.

Imports are cheaper on insurance, better on gas, cops won't give you a second look, It's a challenge, and a domestic weighs too damn much. It needs that extra power just to make up for the weight ;)

4jacks 05-27-2002 01:12 PM

I don't think V6? is going to back to view our high quality responses here..... :|

Jsmurf 05-27-2002 04:42 PM

I think that import cars just look better.....they are smaller and more of a challenge......I luv my rice burner!!! ;)
You have to spend a lot more money just to buy the GTP with 240 hsp, so where is the challenge??

Grey16 05-27-2002 07:02 PM

I like all cars but a import has something about it. Welcome even if you never come back to read anything that you posted
