I'm getting 19 mpg in the city. Whats wrong ?

1994 Honda Accord 4 dr EX .I'm getting 19 mpg in the city. I always keep the rpms to under 3,000 at every stop light. Whats wrong ? Is this bad for a 4 door automatic with 10 coats of paint, a sub, 17 inch wheels, and driven only in city ??

Hmm... that seems a little low. When's the last time you had a tuneup and valve adjustment? Also, do you use injector cleaner every now and then? In other words, is everything maintained well?

wow, that seems pretty low, even with all the ish you've done to your ride. Hows your tire pressure? Underinflated tires eat your gas milage like crazy. You would be suprised at the difference if the problem is in fact your tires. Other than that, make sure your car is well maintained. I believe your city milage should be around 22-25mpg

ok ok im at 93,000 miles right now...

Ive changed: brake pads, oil change recently, im running fuel injector cleaner on this tank, tire pressure is fine.

What needs to be done ? Tranny fluid change, coolant system flush and new coolant, spark plugs, timing belt, WHAT ELSE ??

When's the last time you did a major tuneup including valve adjustment, etc. BTW, you're right, you should get your timing belt done asap. Plugs are a good place to start too.

yep i would reccomend you to change the timing belt now. change the plugs, plug wires, dist cap and rotor, change the tranny oil, change the fuel filter, make sure you have the air fuel mixture set correctly, get an alignament done

i have a 1994 Accord EX and when I bought my car a few months ago it only got 19 in city also. I run 1 can of fuel system cleaner (like STP or Slick50 whatever) with each tank of gas and I get 24-25 mpg. Also since I started that, I noticed if I skip a tank full I still get around 22-23. With that info, I assume that my injectors and fuel filter needs changed/cleaned. So I recommend you do the same. Go to a dealer or shop and have the fuel system flushed.

stop fueling when the pump stops the first time. overfilling may result in putting gas in the vapor canister, and messing up with the evaporative system, which will result in lower gas mileage, and the car to run like crap.

You run a can of that each time you fill? Some of that stuff's only safe every 3k miles or so, so I'd be careful.

running it every time you fill it up will foul the sensors and cause their failure. and a sensor is not that cheap. we are talking over 120 for a brand new one (OEM)

I borrowed my mom's '95 Acura Legend a while back, 90K miles.
When I got it I was getting about 18-20. I aired up the tires (from 15psi!) and that got me about 22. A bottle of injector cleaner and some fresh plugs got it up to 24-25, but that's all she'd do even driving at 55 on the highway.
